Spotlight on: Karl Mehta, EdCast

November 4, 2014 | By

We look forward to welcoming Karl Mehta, Founder & CEO of EdCast Inc., to the Open edX Conference on November 18. A tech entrepreneur and investor, Karl also plays an active role in policy and government: He was selected by the Obama administration to serve as a White House Presidential Innovation Fellow in 2012, and he is an active board member appointed by California Governor Brown on the Workforce Investment Board. We asked Karl to share his work and experiences with Open edX.

What has been your focus in your work with Open edX?

EdCast operates in Mountain View, Washington DC, Mumbai, and London, with a mission to help open-source movements in education make the world a better place by offering access to high-quality education to everyone. Open edX has been a critical component to fulfill that mission.

How did you get started?

I’ve been working with the Open edX platform for over a year, after first hearing about the Open edX initiative from Anant Agarwal at the World Economic Forum in Davos. EdCast is focused on Cloud/SaaS services and building LTI-compliant apps, and has worked on some rewarding projects within the EdTech community, including Michigan State University, United Nations SDSN Group, TiE Institute, University of Northampton, SamaSource, IIIT, CodersJoint.comOpen Online Academy, and many more.

What are you looking forward to at the conference?

I am very interested to expand the Open edX ecosystem, and I look forward to hearing about the Open edX platform roadmap and open-source community innovations. EdTech has the power to transform education to make it accessible and affordable to everyone, which is the lynchpin for global peace and prosperity.
