Cancelling the 2020 Open edX Conference

March 30, 2020 | By

We hope that everyone is safe and healthy in the face of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Open edX Team has spent the last couple weeks consulting with virtual conference experts and members of the community about holding a virtual Open edX Conference.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to answer the survey or speak with us about it.

Ultimately we have decided that we won’t be holding a virtual conference this May.

With the current worldwide disruption caused by the spread of COVID-19, our collective energies are needed to help support moving education around the globe online.

We are hopeful that as things return to normalcy in the coming months that we can start planning for Open edX 2021 and, again, gather this wonderful community together, in person.

Between now and then, we will hold more virtual events.  We want to expand these events to include more of the great content we saw proposed for the conference.  This was already something that we planned to do. We will also look to incorporate more access and more opportunities to participate for remote conference attendees in the future.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our call for speakers. We wish we could put all of you in front of the community. We’ll be working on how best to get your ideas out to people.

For those of you who purchased tickets, we are actively working with Eventbrite to refund all purchases in full.  This process has taken longer than we liked.
