It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the cancellation of the “in person” 2020 Open edX Conference.
Given the continued concerns about coronavirus (COVID-19), we concluded that cancelling the event was the responsible thing to do. Despite that conviction, this was not an easy decision to make. The opportunity to meet face-to-face with the amazing Open edX community is something we value highly.
Over the course of the next week, the Open edX Organizing Team will determine whether to hold a virtual conference. To that end, please add your voice to this survey to let us know whether you would be interested in attending or speaking at a virtual event.
Regardless of whether we hold a virtual event, we will still award the 2020 Open edX prize this year. Submissions are open through April 17. You can find more information about the award in this post.
For attendees that have already purchased tickets for the conference, we will be issuing refunds. Please bear with us as we work with Eventbrite on this effort.
For sponsors, we will be contacting you about your options, which include rolling over sponsorship to the 2021 conference or receiving a refund.
I wanted to thank our hosts, Nova School of Business & Economics and FCT, our sponsors, the Open edX Organizing Team, everyone who proposed a talk, the team who have been working hard to review all the proposed talks, everyone who planned to attend, and our amazing keynote speakers.
This was not an easy decision, and we greatly appreciate the support of everyone who worked on Open edX 2020.
