Coronavirus and the 2020 Open edX Conference

March 6, 2020 | By

Like you, we are concerned about the global outbreak of coronavirus.

Portugal, the host of the 2020 Open edX Conference, announced its first confirmed cases of COVID-19 on March 2nd.

At this time we are planning to hold the conference as scheduled.

We acknowledge that this situation is highly dynamic.  Ultimately we will follow the advice of recognized health authorities like the WHO, CDC and the Portuguese Directorate General for Health, as well as our host institution Nova SBE.

Currently, Portugal is considered by the CDC in the category of risk of limited community transmission for travelers and CDC recommends that “travelers should practice usual precautions.”

We also note that there is some chance that either Portugal, or the EU as a whole, may restrict travel from regions most affected by the outbreak. We are also monitoring this situation.

If you have any questions about this, or anything else related to the 2020 Open edX Conference, please send email to openedx2020@edx.org.
