Custom Unit Flowsheet Unit Parameter Report

Postby nrgeng » 18 June 2015, 12:26

When attempting to use an exposed parameter from an embedded flowsheet, how does one know which of several Units owns the parameter, e.g., Heat Duty, while selecting a parameter in a Unit Parameter Report or in a Virtual Information Port dialog? Could another column be added to the Unit Parameter Report dialog of the Custom Unit similar to that used in the Exposed Parameter dialog within the embedded flowsheet? Now, one has to guess which Unit owns the parameter and/or open the Units GUI to view the Exposed Parameter dialog because a week later one will not be able to remember the parameter's Unit association.

Example from Exposed Parameter dialog:
Exposed parameters:
Exported name | Unit operation | Parameter name
Heat duty | Intercooler | Heat duty
Heat duty (1) | Aftercooler | Heat duty
Heat duty (2) | Air Heater | Heat duty

Example from Unit Parameter Report dialog:
Unit operation: {name of} Embedded Flowsheet
Parameters:
Heat duty | {name of} Embedded Flowsheet /Heat duty
Heat duty (1) | {name of} Embedded Flowsheet /Heat duty (1)
Heat duty (2) | {name of} Embedded Flowsheet /Heat duty (2)

How about using "{name of} Embedded Flowsheet /Aftercooler/Heat duty (1)" and "{name of} Embedded Flowsheet /Air Heater/Heat duty (2)" for a no guesswork dialog Unit/parameter listing?

You can rename the exposed parameters of the embedded flowsheet (in the exposed parameter dialog, as well as during exposing the parameter)

The default name does not include the name of the unit, as it is sort of assumed that you only expose a small sub set of the flowsheet parameters to the external flowsheet, and a meaningful name is assigned to them. The suggestion for the meaningful name is the original parameter name.

The report in the outer flowsheet cannot fix this: it sees the parameter as being part of "Embedded flowsheet" and cannot see the unit operations in there.

In short: rename the parameters exposed from the embedded flowsheet to include the unit name, if you need the unit name.
