Heat Exchanger Unit Vapor Fraction Mismatch

Postby nrgeng » 19 June 2018, 20:34

Update: To debug, I switched a pair of Heater/Coolers for the Heat Exchanger and was able to solve the Flowsheet. Then I swapped the Heat Exchanger in and the Flowsheet solved. I must have configured the Heat Exchanger in error. I thought that the numbers looked strange even accounting for partial vaporization. Do you see anything to report?

COFE v3.2.0.22
The Inlet 2 and Outlet 2 vapor fractions differ in the Heat Exchanger Unit. Is this correct?

Looks correct to me. You are cooling down stream 3 from 60 to 30 C. The energy you have from that you are using to partially evaporate stream 10, which is at bubble point temperature. As stream 10 is a pure compound, temperature remains constant during the evaporation.

Heat balance closes.

Why do you feel this is in error?
